So this is what is happening on March 11th at 238 Mulberry St., currently the pop-up store/ art factory of IVANAhelsinki and Love Contemporary.

There will be mask making from 7, followed at around 8 or 8:30 by a mixture of storytelling and animation screening, including our new KiraKira animation!

We will also have some goods for sale.

All are welcome to come, it is a free event open to all ages!

前の記事で少し書いた、IVANAhelsinkiの期間限定のお店で開催されるイベントのフライヤーができました。

日時は3月１１日木曜日、場所はニューヨークの238 マルベリー(Mulberry) ストリート沿いの

プリンス(prince)とスプリング(spring)ストリートに挟まれている所です。GoogleMap

７時に開場し、早めにきてくれた人達には自分の仮面を作ってもらおうと考えています。一緒に変な仮面を作りましょう。

その後、８時か８時半ごろに、物語とアニメーション上映がミックスされた短い出し物を見て、聞いてもらう予定です。もちろんできたばかりのKiraKiraのビデオ「BLESS」も上映します！その他、グッズ販売も行う予定です。

このイベントは参加無料です。ぜひ皆さんお越し下さい★

IVANAhelsinki PopUp

Long weekend reporting!

Hmmm... I thought we had mentioned IVANAhelsinki before, but looking back, it seems we haven't! IVANAhelsinki is an amazing fashion company from Finland run by sisters Paola & Pirjo Suhonen with Paola designing the prints and clothes. We are connected with them through KASINO A4, who teamed up with IVANAhelsinki for their final party and magazine issue last year.

Now the rest of this post will start to make sense as we are putting something together with them:

After a brief meeting with Pirjo and a quick look at the space on Thursday, we headed back to 238 Mulberry St. on Friday night for the IVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up store opening.

We saw IVANAhelsinki's Copper Chain AW '10 line, listened to the musical stylings of Alexa Wilding, and drank down some Finlandia vodka tonics.

Great fun and lots of interesting looking people!

And thanks to Pirjo and Paola, Overture will be taking over the space on March 11th for our own special kind of event! Can't say much just yet but details are coming very very soon!

水曜日の夜から２人でニューヨークを訪れていて、先ほど（土曜日の夜）Greenfieldに戻ってきました。空に広がるたくさんの星を眺めて、ああ帰ってきたなあとしみじみ。

この数日の滞在はある１つの目的のためでした。

フィンランドを代表するファッションブランドIVANAhelsinkiが2月19日〜3月16日まで期間限定オープンさせるお店IVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up storeでこのブランドを運営する姉妹、Paola（パオラ／デザイナー） & Pirjo（ピルヨ／マネージャー）の２人に会うためです。

以前から連絡は取り合っていたのですが、偶然にも昨年終了したフィンランドのKASINO A4のラストパーティーでIVANAhelsinkiはショウを開催し、Overtureは追悼のTシャツデザインをする事で間接的にコラボする事ができて、そして今回店舗オープンのために姉妹そろってニューヨークにいるという事で、初めて会う事が出来ました。

木曜日にオープン直前のお店、金曜日にオープニングイベントと２日間通ってきました。

金曜夜のイベントでは、Alexa Wildingの生演奏をBGMに、IVANAhelsinkiの2010秋冬”Copper Chain”ラインを纏ったモデルのショウとFinlandiaのウォッカドリンク、そして店内に溢れるお客さん達のファッションも楽しみました。

そしてそして、ニューヨークに住んでる人、ニューヨークにお友達のいる人！

3月11日(木)に、このIVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up storeでOvertureのイベントをする事が決定しましたので、ぜひ来てください＆どうか来れそうな人にお知らせくださいー！内容については、できるだけ早くここでお知らせできるようにします。よろしくです！

今夜、近所のターナーズフォールズのスターバックススタジオにて開催される”Starbux Studio February Rentparty!”の告知です。

以前、このスタジオの中の１つの部屋を作業＆音楽部屋として借りていた繋がりで、イベントに参加する事になりました。

夜の７時から、アニメーションを上映する予定です。

Tonight (02/06/10) some of our animations will be screened at the Starbux Studiospace in Turners Falls, MA! They are having a rent party blowout and we temporarily had a room there, so we were kindly included in the list of activities for the evening.

Joshua Burkett, the gentle sweetheart co-proprietor of Mystery Train Records, co-synthesizer of Tarp, and putter-outer of damn-fine records on his Mystra imprint, will be performing a set of his curiously beautiful tunes. His records are gorgeous homey soundscapes with idiosyncratic acoustic guitar twinklings in the vein of fahey or elizabeth cotten. He hasn't been playing out too much lately, so we're thrilled he took us up on the offer!

also performing is The RICEnsemble. The RICEnsemble is a multi-dimensional sound unit dedicated to expressing musical vibrations as a perceptual substance to be shaped into unique artifacts for each performance. Led by composer / performer J Starpoli (a.k.a. Phloyd RICE), the Ensemble exists to actualize original musical concepts across a wide range of styles. Drawing on fringe traditions of world-wide experimental music, unorthodox theory, and quack science, the RICEnsemble creates sonic textures and materials that exist within themselves to be actively reinterpreted by the listener. We will be screening some short animations from our old studiomates, Overture Brown. This art/comix/design duo create enveloping worlds of cute/creepy characters prancing through landscapes dribbling with color. A cursory peep through their websites reveals a jaw-dropping array of projects & connections/collaborations with artists around the world - they are truly the hidden gem of Greenfield.

also screening will be the debut of Neil Young, Cloaca's newest video, an as-yet-to-be-titled piece from his ongoing Qwiktime 'N' Swiffkutz series. Shot during Fat Worm of Error's recording sessions this past spring with sound engineer extraordinaire, Justin Pizzoferrato, the video is an acrobatic camera collage of the Bank Row Studios' strange spaces, sounds, & textures. Also, brief excerpts from other titles in the Qwiktime 'N' Swiffkutz series may be screened as well.

Imaginaria Film Festival

And yet another screening!
Bryum & Kapok, in its entirety, was selected to screen in the 7th edition of the Imaginaria Film Festival in Conversano, Italy! The festival runs from the 11th to 15th of November and Bryum & Kapok will screen on the 12th from around 6 PM. A schedule can be found here (in Italian).

今年の秋はお知らせする事が多いですね。

もうひとつ、上映が決まりました。今度はイタリア！B＆K３部作、イタリアデヴューです。

11/11〜15にイタリアのConversanoで開催される第７回Imaginaria Film FestivalにてBryum & Kapokが選ばれ、３部作まとめて上映される事が決まりました。

Another screening!

Byum & Kapok: A Lilt will be screening at the Institute of Contemporary Art, London on November 6th! It will screen as part of Little Pencil, a workshop where children draw to music.
This is an amazing opportunity and the first time our animation will be used in some kind of children education.
If you have kids and are in London, please take a look!

また新たな場所で上映が決まりました。今度はロンドン、それもICAで！

Bryum & Kapokの３作目、「A Lilt」がロンドンのInstitute of Contemporary Artsで11/6に開催されるLittle Pencilという子供のための音楽とドローイングのワークショップにて上映されます。

ここは、もう１０年以上も前に私（Aya）がロンドンでギャラリー巡りをした時に訪ねた事がある思い出の場所です。こうして巡り巡って自分の作品が上映されるチャンスが来た事、とても嬉しいです。

★アニメーションカテゴリでノミネートされていた、The Swatch Young Illustrators Award　2009。先日結果が出て、残念ながら賞は逃しましたが、ノミネート作品の展示は11/1まで続いています。お近くの方はぜひ立ち寄ってみてくださいね。

Illustrative, the "leading international forum for contemporary and graphic arts" (Illustrative site source) nominated us for their 2009 Young Illustrators Award!
Along with nine other animation category nominees (with two other categories, illustration and book art, ~35 nominees total) we await Sunday (10/18) when the winner of this award will be announced.
This year the festival is in Berlin and starts on the 15th (this Friday). As always, we wish we could be there.

ドイツのベルリンで明日、15日より開催されるイラストレイティブ2009でのコンペティション、The Swatch Young Illustrators Award 2009のアニメーションカテゴリに「Bryum&Kapok」がノミネートされています！

カテゴリはイラストレーション/ブックアート/アニメーションの３つで、合計35組のアーティストが選ばれています。18日（日）には受賞者が決定するそうなので、モニタの前で今から正座して待ってます。今回も（というか今までどこかに行けたためしがないけど）会場には行けなくて本当に本当に残念です。

会場でドキドキしながら「And The Winner Is...」てっていう発表を聞くなんて経験、してみたかったなー。

KiraKira TourTour

KiraKira is going on a short tour of Europe this September and we designed a poster for it!... or at the moment for this first stop at Sódóma, a venue in Reykjavík she'll be playing at on September 5th. The image is going to be used for more show posters though and flyers too so keep your eyes peeled for dates and locations on KiraKira's Myspace page!

Also, below is a a larger version of the poster, simplified. There are some little folks worth a look hanging around the letters.

９月から始まるKiraKiraのヨーロッパツアーに、ポスター／フライヤーデザインという形で参加しています。

上にアップしているものは、最初の公演先であるアイスランド・レイキャビックのSódómaでの9/5公演用のものですが、これよりあとの公演先と、次のいくつかのツアーでこのデザインのポスター／フライヤーが作られるそうです。

たくさんの人に実物を見てもらえたら良いなと思います。（私も実物が欲しい！まあデザインしたものをプリントアウトすればいいんですが…でもそういう事じゃなくて！）

Last Night, From Today

Last night's Phantom Brain Exchange went wonderfully. Bryum & Kapok was well received, we sold some goods and the other performers/DJ/Lecturer were great.

昨日のファントムブレインエクスチェンジ、無事にBryum&Kapokの上映もできてたくさんの人に楽しんでもらう事ができました。

会場で販売したグッズもいくつかいくつかが私たちの手を離れて売れて行ってしまいました…向こうで元気でやるんだよー。

Creature Bags for the Brain Exchange

For tonight's screening at the Phantom Brain Exchange we've made some bags with the fabric we recently had made. We had a lot of help from our sister, Sara and learned a lot we'll be putting to good use in the future.

Let's rendezvous at the Rendezvous!

We are going to be screening Bryum & Kapok in full at this month's Montague Phantom Brain Exchange at the Rendezvous in Turners Falls!

隣町Turners FallsのRendezvousで開催されるイベントで、『Bryum&Kapok』を上映する機会に恵まれました。
毎月、ライブと映像上映とレクチャーが混ぜ混ぜで行われるカオス状態で人気のイベント、Montague Phantom Brain Exchange （モンタギュー ファントム ブレイン エクスチェンジ）。
毎週最後の水曜日に開催されるんですが、次回の6/24に『Bryum&Kapok』3部作で参加します。

















We are being introduced as "Overture Brown" which is sort of funny, but appropriate I guess.
The event is on Wednesday June 24th and starts at 9 pm.
For more details there is a Google Groups page but this is what is written about us:

"Overture Brown's sumptuous psychedelic forrest creatures will dance
upon our screen in a batik-y swirl of magnificently rendered pixels.

MOYTOY Phobia exhibition!

We're participating in PHOBIA EXHIBITION, a group exhibition next month put together by MOYTOY at Gallery 101 in Kaunas, Lithuania!
Above is the illustration we created for the exhibition. Participating artists were asked to select a phobia and express it how they saw fit. We chose "lachanophobia", fear of vegetables.
The exhibition runs from June 5th to 20th and there is an opening party on the 5th from 5PM.
It's been a while since we were in any kind of exhibition so it is pretty exciting!

6月5日より、リトアニア・KaunasのGallery 101で開催されるMOYTOY主催の企画展「PHOBIA EXHIBITION」に参加します。

Pitopiaで「Bryum&Kapok」を見たMOYTOYの人からお誘いが来たんですが、そういえば最近こういうのに参加してないな…と思い面白そうなので参加する事にしました。

テーマはPHOBIA（フォビア）。恐怖症です。
今回は参加アーティストが選んだPHOBIA(恐怖症)をテーマに作品を制作する、というもので、私達が選んだのは、"lachanophobia"（野菜恐怖症）です！（世の中には色んな恐怖症がありますね…ちなみに私達は野菜恐怖症ではありません。大好きです。）
ブログでいち早くお披露目です。

展示期間は6月20日まで。初日はオープニングパーティーがあるそうです。行ってみたーい！リトアニア！

30th Durban International Film Festival

Bryum & Kapok will be screened at the 30th Durban International Film Festival held by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa this Summer! The festival runs from July 22rd - August 3rd.
We will of course, post more details as they become known to us.

速報です。南アフリカのDurbanにあるKwaZulu-Natal大学内のCentre for Creative Artsで開催される、第30回 Durban International Film Festivalにて『Bryum & Kapok』 が上映決定というお知らせを頂きました！
このフェスティバルは今年の夏、7月22日から8月3日にかけて行われます。

4月も、いくつかの映画祭などで「Rhubarbidoo」が上映されます。

Bryum & Kapok, in its three part entirety, will be screening at the festival/conference/exhibition that is Pictoplasma's Pictopia in Berlin this March. Specifically, it will screen as part of the "Psychedelic Midnight Mix" from 10:30 P.M. to 12: A.M. on March 20th, the second day of the conference.

上映情報が続きます。

ベルリンで3/19〜3/21まで開催される、Pictoplasma主催のキャラクターデザインを中心としたフェスティバル／カンファレンスイベントPictopiaにて、Overtureの映像作品「Bryum & Kapok」が、それも、3部作全て一挙に上映される事になりました！

今回が初の、大勢の人の前での3作品まとめてのスクリーニングなのでとても嬉しいですし、上映される枠が、また素敵なんです。

"Psychedelic Midnight Mix (サイケデリックミッドナイトミックス)"！
…やっぱりその枠に入るのね…と妙に納得しました。

Last night (Dec. 4th) we were lucky enough to meet up with Kira Kira and see her play live! She is in the middle of her U.S. tour along the East Coast and it just so happened she was booked at the Sierra Grille in Northampton, not twenty minutes from our home!
It was over a year since we'd seen her last and first talked about Our Map to the Monster Olympics and the ideas we had for it and though this was only our second encounter it felt like we were meeting an old friend. We caught up a bit and some new ideas and some wishful thinking was tossed around and we got to meet some of the fine folks traveling with her.
On top of the good company the music was also wonderful. This was our first experience with Kira Kira's live performance and as is usually the case with good music this offered a much more interesting sound and depth than simply listening to the recording. And this was even with the somewhat muffling acoustics of the venue and above the chatter of the audience.
Kira Kira was kind enough to dedicate her performance of "Bless" to Overture and Aya was able to capture this on magically low quality video.

We wish her and her crew all the best on the rest of their tour and hope that it will not be another 16 months until we meet again.

昨日（12/4）の夜はとても寒かった。でもとっても心温まる夜でした。
USツアーでアメリカに来ていたKira Kiraに、一年半以上ぶりに会いに行ってきたからです。

今回のツアー先のひとつが、Northanmptonという町にあるthe Sierra Grille。なんと家から車で20分というすごく近い場所でやる事がわかり、ここで会う事にしました。

彼女は、初めての（KiraKira談）自分がメインのツアーという事で緊張してるかと思えばそうでもなく、相変わらずの感じでした。
演奏の順番が来るまでの間、minimonster epやOur Map to the Monster Olympicsの事、そしてお互いに今までやってきた事やこれからやりたい事などたくさん話す事が出来ました。

そして実は、彼女の生演奏を聴くのは今回が初めて！CDで聞くのとは全然違います。
なによりも曲間の彼女のお喋りや仕草で、お店が全体的にホンワカしてくるような感じ。会場はテーブルもゴチャゴチャとあって、全然ホンワカムードとは縁遠い場所なのに。

最初は遠巻きに聴いていたんですが、ビデオカメラを持ってたのを思い出して最前列のポコッと空いたスペースに座って撮影し始めたすぐ後でした。
「次の”BLESS”という曲を、私の友達であるOvertureのJasonとAyaに捧げます。」と！！なんとも嬉しい言葉…ビデオに収めてまーす！（あんまりいい画質じゃないけど…下にあります）

どうか、この先のツアー先も無事で、楽しんで。

Overture meets Hauschka!

Just as we are about to embark on the creation of the third and final installment of the Bryum & Kapok animation triptych we receive a reinvigorating encounter! A meeting with the musical half of our project, Hauschka!
Friday night marked the first night of Hauschka's U.S. tour, playing at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC as part of the Wordless Music Series, something he participated in last year as well, and we were fortunate enough to make it down for this event.
Mikhail Simonyan and Tom Brousseau were the two opening acts, each as equally mesmerizing as they were different in their performance. Even before any music was played the venue was extremely full and we could find nowhere to sit which felt stranger than normal as Le Poisson Rouge is set up like a restaurant, with seats only at tables and a stage in one corner and a bar along the opposite wall. Luckily a kind young man and woman offered to share their table with us and we were able to put down our overnight bags and rest our feet.
Hauschka was wonderful and this time had two cellists and two violinists accompany him on a number of pieces from his new latest album, Ferndorf. These accompanying musicians did not fly over from Dusseldorf with him but auditioned and selected just the day before! They all performed beatifully however and even played two of the songs that are used in the animations. Needless to say, these were particularly moving.

Afterwards we were able to speak with Hauschka, as well as Tom Brousseau, and we were even able to finally meet Anna from FatCat USA. It was late and everyone had to be going somewhere but the connection and apprectiation was deeply felt on both sides and now we can take leave on this final leg of our journey with enlivened steps.

USツアー中のHauschkaにニューヨークで会ってきました！
会場はLe Poisson Rouge。ブロードウェイからちょっと歩いた所にある、赤い壁のシックな場所です。

ゲストは、ヴァイオリン奏者のMikhail SimonyanとTom Brousseau。
Tom BrousseauとHauschkaは、以前見に行ったmumのSomerville公演でゲストとして出演してたので、今回聴くのが２回目です。

Tom Brousseauは、CDよりも生で聴いてビックリする様な声の持ち主。空間がねじれたように変わって、相変わらずのディビッド・リンチワールド。上手く言葉で説明できないので（CDではなぜか伝わらないんです！）彼は、チャンスがあれば生で見るのを強くお勧めします。

Hauschkaは今回、4人の弦楽器奏者達(2人のチェロと2人のヴァイオリン奏者)とステージに上がっていました。彼の話によると、この4人とは昨日会ったばっかりとの事…？本当か嘘かわかりませんが、息のあった演奏でした。
今回も、たくさんの小さなグッズをテープで弦にくっつけて演奏していましたが、新入りグッズのシルバーボールのネックレスみたいなものを、アメリカに来て100円ショップみたいな所で購入したばかりでよく使っていると説明していました。
そしてグッと来たのは、3部作アニメーションの1作目と３作目の使用曲を演奏してくれた事！
特に現在ストーリーボード制作中の3作目の音楽は、最高のタイミングで体にしみ込ませる事が出来ました。

ライブの後は、Hauschkaに会って少し話す事が出来ました。
昨年の11月にほんの少し会ったっきりで、そこから丸一年ぶりの彼は大きな背よりさらに大きく見えるような、光っている様な感じがしてました。

Tom Brousseauも、ツアー先のホテルでHauschkaに教えてもらってビデオを見たよ！凄く良かった！と話してくれて、とても気に入ってくれたみたいです。最初は私達が作ったと知らずに普通に話していて、後で驚いてました。

Hauschkaには次のツアー先が（シカゴ）、私達にも3作目の制作があるので、また近いうちに会える事を約束して、今はひとまずのお別れ。同行の友人カオリちゃんに写真を撮ってもらいました。
さあーこれから３作目、頑張らなくちゃ！

2008 DOTMOV Select!

The first piece of our animation triptych for Hauschka, Bryum & Kapok: A Memory, has been selected for the 2008 DOTMOV festival created by Sapporo based SHIFT! Over the course of November the 23 selected videos will tour around Japan as well as Hong Kong, Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo and joining in ILLUSTRATIVE 08 in Zurich. 先月Pitchforkにてプレミア公開された、Hauschkaの３部作アニメーションの第一作目「 Bryum & Kapok: A Memory」が、SHIFT主催の DOTMOV FESTIVAL 2008 の最終作品に選出されました！
今年集まった作品総数は、世界37カ国から289作品。
11月より、全23作品で国内外14カ所（予定）をツアー上映で回るそうです。
現在発表されているのは、日本（札幌・東京・大阪・福岡など）、香港、ブラジル（ベロオリゾンテ・サンパウロ）、そしてチューリッヒで開催される ILLUSTRATIVE 08の中でも上映されるそうです。

Floating World Animation Fest 2008

Our animation 「Sesame」will be screening at the Floating World Animation festival in Portland,Oregon!
The second annual Floating World Animation Festival - part of SUPERTRASH at the Bagdad Theater. Saturday, Aug. 16th - 6:30pm.

Sesame is the short animation we did in 2006 for our exhibition, "Sweatlodge" at the MailArt Gallery in Oita, Japan. It was our first animated venture into the world of Chim and Harold and we plan on returning to it in the near future.

来る8/16、「Floating World Animation Festival」にてアニメーション作品「Sesame」が上映されます。

このフェスティバルは、ポートランド（オレゴン州）のバグダッドシアターで開催される「SUPER TRASH」という映像フェスティバルの一部として開催されるもので、ポートランドのコミックショップ「Floating World Comics」が主催しています。

けっこう昔の作品なんですが、店主のJasonが何よりも「Sesame」を気に入ったそうで、ご指名頂きました。
先日公開されたトレイラー（上の映像）では、ちょうど1分あたりの所でこのアニメーションのキャラクター、Chimが一瞬出ています。

2006年の初夏の大分での個展「SWEAT LODGE」の時に制作した3分程度のアニメーションです。

実はこの作品は物語の導入部で、ここでは出せなかった物語の背景やキャラクター、設定など山ほどあり、それが二人の中で日々構築されては崩されて、より良い状態を求めてグニュグニュと動いています。
そうしながら、いつかこのアニメーションの本編の制作に打ち込める日が来る事をとても楽しみにしています。

本編より前にフェスティバルで導入部が上映されるという事、これもまた「Sesame」の事を思い出してというメッセージなのかもしれません。

この上映が決まってから二人で「Sesame」のストーリーや世界観などについて改めて話し合う機会が増えました。

今作ってるものが落ち着いたら（それは早くても11月頃ですが）、また少しずつ動き出していきたいです。
