Amargosa new album and release party!




As mentioned, yesterday (3/8) we went to Amargosa's self-titled debut album release party. Their performance was unfortunately cut short by complaints from the owner upstairs, but it was a good time nonetheless and we got our hands on a few copies of the cd (and a bonus tshirt each)! The photo above is of the band (l-r: Carson, Josh & Luke) and below are shots of our cd cover artwork.
昨日はOvertureがニューアルバムのカバーアートを作ったバンド、Amargosaのリリースパーティーでした。
人でいっぱいで、メンバーの3人も嬉しそうでした。 そして、会場で出来上がったCDをもらってきました。

A little late in the posting, but tonight we'll be at McNeill's Brewery in Brattelboro where the band Amargosa will be celebrating the release of their self-titled debut album...that Overture did the artwork for (pictured above...the cover, anyway).
Things start at 9:30, according to the band's website they will be playing as well. We will offer up more images of the cd and its artwork once we get a copy tonight.

今夜、以前個展をやった町バーモント州ブラットルボロのMcNeill's Breweryで、アルバムリリースパーティーを行うバンドAmargosaのアルバムカバーの絵をOvertureが描きました。
バンドのメンバーの一人Joshが、以前の個展会場 Through The Music Galleryのオーナーという縁です。

私達も、これから会場に向かってCDをもらってこようと思います☆
とりあえず元絵のみ、一足先にここにアップしておきます。
夏頃にはレコードも出す予定で、その時はこれにもう少しプラスしたものになると思います。

来年の1月のお話です。

関西が拠点のアニメーション上映企画団体animation soupの上映会「アニメーションだョ！全員集合」にアニメーションで参加する事になりました。
日程は2008年 1/19〜20。昼／夜の部があって、一挙50作品と盛りだくさんです。

On January 19th and 20th the animation festival, Animation Soup is taking place in Osaka. Our very own Rhuubarbidoo, music video for the mum song of the same name will be projected at the showing alongside the work of many fine artists.
The festival will be held at the HEP Hall. Aya posted all the date and contact information above in all its lengthy extension.
We unfortunately will have already left the country when the event takes place, but we are very grateful to be part of such a fun festival!

New Múm Video By Overture!!

Finally!! Our new animation "Rhuubarbidoo", is released upon the wild!
It is a music video for the Múm song of the same name, taken from their latest album, Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy and heralding the start of their tour.


The story of Rhuubarbidoo is concerned with the life of rhubarb stalks, focusing on their growth ceremonies in particular.
Many creatures of the forest have gathered under the protection of the rhubarb patch canopy to watch the magic of the growth dance.
Towards the center of the great, twisted rhubarb canopy support, two younger rhubarb stalk, Rhubies discuss their abilities in the art of the dance. The bolder of the two makes to demonstrate, and though she falls flat on her face, taking the first steps of the dance calls the out the elder rhubarb stalk, Rhubes, and consequently initiates the growth dance.
Five Rhubies and five Rhubes dance around the supporting knot of sinewy stalks, drawing out the depths of their sour magic until one of the Rhubies feels an awakening within her. The Rhubes gather around this Rhubie and guide the magic forward, finally releasing the Rhube within and allowing the Rhubie to grow up.
The ceremony does not end here as now there are one too many Rhubes for the next dance. The Rhubies, frightened by the transformation of their sister and the events to follow escape to the folds of the center support while the Rhubes gather around their eldest.
In a moment of intesity the Rhubes display for a briefly reveal the true face of their magic, in turn calling out and draining the spirit from the eldest Rhube.
Now nothing but an everyday, healthy stalk of rhubarb, the former eldest Rhube takes his leave of the magic canopy to join those like him in the gathering outdoor rhubarb patch.

Overtureの作ったアニメーションが、アイスランドのバンドMúm（ムーム）の新曲『Rhuubarbidoo』のビデオとしてUKレーベル fat cat recordsよりリリースされました!
この曲は彼らの最新アルバム『 Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy』の収録曲で、2分もない短い曲です（よかったよ…）。

ただいまYoutubeの"Fatcatrecords channel"にもアップされてます。

テーマはルバーブ。日本ではダイオウという名前の植物です。

ある夜に、ルバーブの根っこで行われるルバーブの子供の「成長の儀式」。
ひとりの子供が、体を裂いて大きなルバーブに成長するとき、古いルバーブのどれかが住処を離れないといけないのです。
そして、一番年を取ったルバーブが精霊である証の表情を奪われ、ただの茎となって、外の世界に出て行く…と言うストーリーです。

夏にアニメーションが完成してから、なんと長かった事か…待ったよ！
こうやって本当に世に出ると、眠い目をこすって作った事、すべて吹っ飛んでしまいますね。

fatcatのデイブ、staffのみなさん、そしてMúmのorverをはじめメンバーのみなさん、こんな素晴らしい経験を本当にありがとう〜

ps.「Rhubarbidoo」と「Rhuubarbidoo」、二つの表記があるみたいです。

We got planB#26!


ただ今発売中のPlanBmagazine 26号に、イラストが掲載されています。






今回はちょっとビーチィー（？）に…という事だったので、こんな感じです。
二人の好物、女の子と恐竜が二つ揃って、締め切りが厳しかったわりにはなんだか上手く描けたような…。

個展も、もう明日で最後です。

期間中、土日は会場でずっと壁画を描いてたんですが、多くの人が展示終了後すぐにこの絵を塗りつぶしてしまう事を残念がってくれました。

もちろん次の展示のために塗り替えが必要ですし、チベット密教の砂曼荼羅の様に、完成したら壊す…それでいいと思います。

次はどこかでもっと時間をかけて、3週間くらいとか…それで大きな場所でやってみたいです。

展示終了に合わせて、秋の色々な収穫の時期が重なってきている様です。
アートマガジン、アニメーション、ジャケットワークなどなど…

あまり日をおかずに順番にお伝え出来ればと思います。

あと…HPを見るたびにため息をつく日々。
新しくしたいと思いながら時はすぎ…飽きっぽいのでしょうか。

いろいろな媒体のおかげでHPには来てくれる人が多いのだけど、どうやらそのままブログに来ることなく立ち去る人が多い模様。
最新のニュース、ここにありますよーー！と叫びたいです。年末、まとまった時間が取れたらなんとかしたいですねえ…

Ding Dongs for Graniph!


I'm up at 3:30 AM this morning to pick someone up from the airport, so Aya and I are on different schedules.

Apparently, without my knowledge she learned of a tshirt design of ours that just went on sale at Graniph in Japan.

The design is of the spirit of the Yamabushitake Yeah's fallen leader on a bright pink ground. Very effective.

Overtureは、子供達の迷い込んだ夜の森やランプから出る煙が、別の物に変わっていく、神隠しのような絵話を描いてます。

前回の日記を書いた時に、まだ雪がつもってるのはいかん！と強く思いましたので、さっそく春夏用に変更しました。
と言っても、大きな変化は一切ないので（とほほ）安心していろいろ押してみてくださいね…

Checking the latest news at Poketo today, we saw that our T-shirt design has been released!

The design is of the Knotted Tower, the great tree that is Overture's website lookout (currently still covered in snow). A simple design when compared to others available but it was certainly no small feat preparing the design for printing.

アメリカ西海岸、LA発のアーティストネットワーク「Poketo」にて、overtureのTシャツが発売されてます☆

現在のovertureのサイト（まだ雪が降ってるのは見なかった事にしてください…）の、トップページの木（knotted towerという名前です）がどーんと正面にプリントされてます〜！

これは見た目シンプルですが、今までにない隠れた努力がありました。
それが今、こうやって形になってとても嬉しいです。

ちなみにこのpoketo、最近日本版サイトもオープンしてます。

アーティストは日本で独自に選ばれた人達なんですが、たまーに本家サイトからのアーティストも参加しています。
日本版でも入れると更に嬉しい♪

２月に開催された「the wurstminster dog show」への参加に対しての記念品（？）のバッジが届きました。すごくかわいい！
バナナはなんとなく置いてみたんで、記念品ではありません。

暖かくなりました。

ブログの外観を変えてみました。

引っ越しもした事だし、ちょっと気分を変えて明るい色に…このままキープするかもしれないし、すぐ元に戻すかもしれません。
でも、いいかも。白。

引っ越し＆flickr更新

今週末に（実は明日から）近場への引っ越し作業が始まるので、何かとバタバタしてます。
移る先は今よりも広い場所なので、とっても楽しみにしています。

そういうわけで明日から更新が順調にできるのか、できないのか今の時点でまったくわかりません。困った困った。

時間のある時にやっておこうと思い、昨年５月の大分での展示「SWEAT LODGE」の写真をFlikrにまとめてアップしました。
来てくれた人も来れなかった人もぜひ。

Here I will try to get back on the ball and offer more interesting updates and small little tales to make this slowly growing list extend a little further downward.
Overture currently has a number of projects in the works, another PlanB illustration and some other even more exciting stuff we cannot speak of yet.
Anyway there is a lot of excitement.

On top of that Overture is relocating to the town of Greenfield, MA - in many ways fairly nondescript, but with enough good things (Co-Op, GCC, etc.) and even more convenience (family, GCC, etc.) too make it a good place right now. Plus the space is huge and Overture's work will be like goldfish to this new aquarium.

Plus it's Spring and slumbering mammals can do nothing but climb out of their caves.
