Firenze Cinema Festival

Halfway is screening at the Rassegna di Cinema Giapponese 2013 film festival in Florence, Italy May 22-25. It will screen with three other films representing the Sapporo Short Film Festival.

It is a great honor to be chosen to screen with these few great films and represent such a wonderful festival.

The screenings will be held in an old palace, Palazzo dello Strozzino, part of which is now a theatre (see the photo at the bottom of the post).

イタリア・フィレンツェで5/22〜25に開催されるフィレンツェ日本映画祭にて「Halfway」が上映される事が決まりました。

上映されるのは札幌国際短編映画祭コラボレーションでセレクトされた短編映像のプログラムで、選ばれたのは私達の作品を含めて４本。

この少ない上映作品の仲間に入れてとても嬉しいです。そしてフィルムリストのページではHalfwayの画像を使ってくださっています！短編はそれぞれ、会期中に上映される長編の前に上映されるそうです。

上映される会場「チネマ・オデオン」は15世紀半ばの宮殿の内部をシアターに改造したもので、とても美しいです。（下の写真です）いつか行ってみたいものです。

Gifts from Laterna Magica!

A very nice little package arrived for us today from Fotokino, the folks who do the  Laterna Magica festival in Marseille! It was a package with a lot of wonderful prints and things from their studio, a nice congratulatory package for Bryum & Kapok : A memory  winning the audience award!

先日、フランス・マルセイユで開催された映画祭Laterna Magicaにて”Bryum & Kapok : A memory”が観客の投票によって決められる観客賞をもらいました！初めてもらう賞が観客賞というのはとてもうれしく、本当に誇りに思います。

そして今日、映画祭より大きな封筒が届きました。中身は今年のLaterna Magica (fotokino)関連の書籍＆アートグッズ！そしてお菓子まで！

「観客賞の賞品としてお送りします」だそうです。かわいい！

ありがたく頂いて、この手紙は初めての賞状として飾っておこうと思います。どうもありがとうー！

Happy New Year!
We made it to 2013!

2012 was an amazing year for us, we had so many wonderful opportunities, met with old friends and made great new friends, released a bunch of new projects, traveled quite a bit, found a new home and worked very hard!
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped and supported and thought about us this year!

2013年　巳年　あけましておめでとうございます。

こうして思い返してみると、2012年は２度も日本に行ったり（マジナイツアー＆札幌映画祭）３本のビデオを完成させたりと盛りだくさんの一年でした。
たくさんの人と出会うことができ、話し合った結果生まれた多くの不思議な企画や出来事…臨機応変にサポートしてくれたみなさん、足を運んで見に来てくれたみなさん、どこかで映像作品を見てくださったみなさんに感謝です。本当にありがとうございました！

さあ２０１３年、今水面下で進んでいる事はどれも今までのOvertureとはひと味違う事ばかりです。みなさんにお知らせできる日が楽しみです。
今年も応援よろしくお願いします。

We've put together a bit of a digest of recent and upcoming Overture sightings!
前回ここで紹介したdublabイベント以外にも、ここでひとつひとつお知らせできてないですが最近いろんな場所で上映があります(＆ありました)。　上映されたもの、これから上映されるもの、いくつか紹介しますね。
Kinofest / Romania

Optica Festival / Spain

From November 29th through December 1st Bryum & Kapok screened at Spain's Domhan Óptica Festival 2012 in Gijón! YAY!

Laterna Magica / France

 Starting on December 5th and running through the 23rd, BLESS and Bryum & Kapok will be screening as part of the program, "Les Petites Formes", in the festival, Laterna Magica in France.
We are happy to be one of the focused artists with Allison Schulnik and Lilli Carré.

And of course DOTMOV continues to tour its festival, screening Ludic Chase and Halfway all over the world. Their screenings are often times free, so take a look at their schedule and visit if you have the chance!


そしてそして
こちらもただいま上映中ですね。先日お伝えしたDOTMOVでもLudic ChaseとHalfwayの二作品が選ばれて、ただいま国内外を巡回上映ツアー中です！(上映会場・スケジュールはこちら)
今現在（12/6）は日本国内で札幌、明日から仙台、静岡、大阪。そしてニューヨーク、バリ、ロサンゼルスで作品が上映中です。お近くの人はぜひ見に行ってもらえたらと思います。
スペイン・ルーマニア・フランス、そして国内外でのDOTMOVの上映と、多くの場所で作品を見てもらうことができて嬉しいです。

“Future Roots” WORKSHOP for children


The Japanese branch of dublab, dublab.jp, has officially officially opened and it looks just like the US home version, but in Japanese and with Japanese events listed. In conjunction with this site ground breaking is an event, Future Roots, at Shibaura House on 12/9. 
During this music event there will be a workshop a CD recording workshop, with our animations screening afterward! We are very happy to be able to once again be a part of a dublab.jp event after our Fruiting Bodies event back in April.


昨年の秋にLAのdublab12周年イベントのためにMushroom Huntingのアニメーションを製作＆上映させてもらったり、今年の春の日本旅ではイベントFruiting BodiesでJordan Kimと共に映像上映をさせてもらっているdublab。
日本ブランチであるdublab.jpのサイト完成＆本格的な始動に合わせて開催されるイベントに参加します。
12/9に東京のSHIBAURA HOUSEで開催されるdublab.jp×SHIBAURA HOUSE のイベント“Future Roots”。
その中で子供のためのCDレコーディングワークショップが開催されるのですが、そこで作品が上映されることになりました。


『声やアプリでCDレコーディング』

みんなで演奏した音が、CDになる！

グループに分かれて環境音（車、声、運河など）を集めたり、iPadのアプリや持ってきた楽器を使って演奏をしましょう。演奏した音は、アーティストのBunさんによってその場で録音され、オリジナルの楽曲となります。完成した楽曲は、CDに焼いてプレゼント（紙のケースにスタンプを押して、オリジナルジャケットもつくれます）。さらに、Dublab.jpのサイトにもアップロードする予定です。楽曲制作の過程を体験し、その楽しさを知ってもらえたらと思います。（shibaurahouseのサイトより説明）

この日はロスより初来日のMatthewdavidとAnenonライブをはじめ、日本よりBun / Fumitake Tamuraさん、Chihei Hatakeyamaさんのライブ、 ShhhhhさんのDJなどあり、入場料は１５００円で（ワークショップ参加は２０００円）会場は出入り自由だそうです。
さらに来場者特典として、Matthewdavidとanenonが作ってくれた、今回のツアー用のMix音源CDのプレゼントも予定されているそうで…盛りだくさんですねー。

Just yesterday an Overture shop opened at Big Cartel and it will house original work exclusively! At the moment we are setting up just five pieces, three of the Dreamers and two older works for reduced prices. Shipping is free through the end of the year!
まずひとつめは昨日ショップをオープンしたばかりのBig Cartel です。ここではOvertureのイラストレーションのオリジナルを販売しています。
今現在はドリーマーズの中から３作品、そして昔の作品から２点、こちらは少しお買い得になっています。今年中のオーダーに関しては世界のどこでも送料無料で受け付けています！



Overture on Society6
We've had quite a few prints available for order in a variety of forms for a while now on Society6. All of the Dreamers, Zodiac illustrations, the looping Sesame illustration and others are up there - and shipping is free through Monday!
ふたつめはイラストレーション作品のプリントを扱っているSociety6。
ここではドリーマーズ、大人気だった干支のカフェインシリーズ、賑やかなセサミバーの店内を360°見渡した長い作品など取り扱っています。値段もお手頃、サイズも選べます。オリジナルではもうすでに私達の手元にないものも、ここでプリントで手に入ります。

Overture on Etsy
We only have one item on Etsy at the moment, the Leaf pendant from Ludic Chase - and there are only 8 left! And they are only $15! We plan to have more physical items of this nature available soon, but you may want to pick one of these up for yourself or a loved one while they are still around.

みっつめは先日もここでお知らせしたEtsyストアのLudic Chaseのリーフペンダント。15ドルで、残りは８個になっています。近いうちにこのペンダントのような身につけられる／絵ではないけど手に取ってもらえるようなグッズをまた作りたいと思っています。それまではこのリーフペンダントを手元にどうぞ。




Overture on The Working Proof
Finally there is our MoonHare piece at The Working Proof. At the moment it is the only place to pick up any of the illustrations from the MoonHare series. There are three different sizes available with prices adjusted accordingly. And of course the best part is that 15% of the gross sale goes to 826 National!!!

DOTMOV 2012



from Animation "Halfway"

For the third time we will be in the DOTMOV Festival, run by Sapporo online magazine, SHIFT! The first was in 2008, the second in 2010 and now 2012 with two animations selected, Halfway and Ludic Chase! We are very grateful!
Ludic Chase isn't available online in its entirety yet, but we did put together a trailer and you can watch it below.

There are 13 films in the festival and the screenings will start from November and play not just in Japan but in the US, UK, Sweden and other countries.

札幌のSHIFTが主催するDOTMOVフェスティバル2012、最終選出作品が発表されて、今年はなんと二つの映像が選ばれました。2008年、2010年に続いて３度目です。ありがとうございます。
今年選ばれたのは「Ludic Chase」「Halfway」です！
Ludic Chaseは短いトレイラーをオンラインで見れるようにしました。全編ではないですが、これで雰囲気を掴んでもらえたら…。
選ばれた13作品は11月より国内を巡回し、その後ロンドン・バリ・ストックホルム・ニューヨークなど海外のギャラリーや映画祭・イベントで上映される予定です。お近くの方はぜひに！



Mr. Sandman on 2pause!

Mr. Sandman, our animation with The Kleenrz, got some 2pause love the other day when they introduced it on their popular music video site!
2pause also featured Halfway, our animation from earlier in the year with Japanese musician, Rayons.

Raindance Film Festival／レインダンス映画祭

Ludic Chase was picked to screen at the 20th Raindance Film Festival in London, 9/26 - 10/7!
This of course is a great honor and will also be the European premiere for Ludic Chase!

Ludic Chase will be screened as part of the Shorts Programme 6, titled, Animated Display. The screening will take place at 5:30 PM on 9/29 at the Apollo Cinemas in Picadilly Circus.

Also, our friend Adrien, who made the music on Ludic Chase under the name rec.tangle, lives in the UK with his beautiful family, so having the UK premiere of the animation there is especially wonderful!

And don't forget to check out the Ludic Chase leaf pendants we are selling and some the Ludic Chase history in our series of videos and entries titled, Nook Notes. We will release the animation on the internet in the near future!

9/26〜10/7にイギリス・ロンドンで開催される第20回レインダンス映画祭にて「LUDIC CHASE」が選ばれました!
この映画祭での上映が、UKはもちろんヨーロッパでの初めての上映になります。

音楽を作ってくれたrec.tangleことアドリアン夫婦の暮らしているイギリスで、ヨーロッパ初めての上映ができることが本当に嬉しいです。

Leaf Pendants!

August 29th was Overture's birthday (and Aya's!) and at eight years old we still have so much yet to share and do! But at the same time we are amazed at what has been accomplished in this time and are so grateful for so many supportive friends and family and fans that have helped us to come so far!

We're fairly busy at the moment, working on a non-animation project and preparing to go to the Sapporo International Short Film Festival next Sunday, but we wanted to do something for Overture's birthday. We still have a few Ludic Chase leaf pendants (actually there are more with the Magi Union in Japan) and thought we would make what we have available for purchase!

The pendants are leaf-shaped and are taken from the leaf that Gunnar waves to attract fireflies and ultimately Oyami in the yet-to-be-publicly-released, Ludic Chase! The animation is doing a few festivals right now and hopefully will be out and about the internet this Fall! Below is the very first still from the animation that demonstrates the calling power of the leaf.

There are only thirteen of these pendants in our possession! I recommend you get one or more for yourself or your loved ones. I should also mention they are all the similar leafy shape but each one is perfectly unique as we crafted and painted them with our own hands. Available on our etsy account!

8月29日はOvertureは８年目の記念日でした。（私Ayaの誕生日でもあります。メッセージありがとう！）まだまだ皆さんにお見せしたいもの／作りたいものは尽きないですが、ここまでやって来れた事、なんとかコンスタントに作品を世に出し続ける事ができた事、本当にありがたいと思います。支えてくれている家族、友人達、そしていつも作品を見てくれているみなさま！感謝感謝ですー！

今、私達はちょっと変わった絵本のプロジェクト、そして来週の日曜に発つ札幌国際短編映画祭への準備で忙しくしていますが、このOvertureの記念の日に何かしたいなと考えました。
少し手元に残っているLudic Chaseの葉っぱのペンダントをEtsyストアで販売するのはどうだろうと思いました。
この葉っぱの形のペンダントはグンナルとオヤミちゃんの出てくる夕暮れ時の蛍の森の物語、Ludic Chaseから生まれました。
私達二人で形を作り、色柄をつけた、ひとつひとつ表情の違う陶器製のペンダントトップです。
ちなみにLudic Chase、いくつかの映画祭での上映を待っていますが、いよいよこの秋頃にオンラインでも見てもらえるようになる予定です！（下の画像は葉っぱの力で蛍を集めるグンナルです）

ペンダントトップ、そんなにたくさんはありません。（日本のMagi Unionでも少し保管してるみたいだけど…）ご自分にひとつ、もし気に入ったらもうひとつ、いかがでしょうか。

Sapporo Short Fest / 札幌国際短編映画祭

Festival and travel news!
We've been nominated for the Filmmaker award at this year's Sapporo International Short Film Festival! It is a huge honor for us!
There are only three other nominees and they are all accomplished, amazing filmmakers: Mohammad reza Hajipour, Don Hetzfeldt and Johannes Nyholm.
We will be screening five of our animations at the festival: Rhubarbidoo, Bryum & Kapok, BLESS, Halfway and Ludic Chase.
We will have more on the schedule dates and time, but the festival is from September 9th through 17th and best yet: we will be in attendance!

札幌で９月に開催される、ショートフィルム映画祭＆マーケット「第７回 札幌国際短編映画祭」のフィルムメーカー部門にノミネートされ、札幌での作品上映が決まりました!

これから全体の情報が公開されていくと思います。

このフィルムメーカー部門は世界の映画祭の中でも珍しいエントリー方式で、3本以上＆45分以内で自分の作品をプログラムにしてエントリーするというもので、映画祭の目玉プログラムのひとつだそうです。
入選作家わずか４組（ムハンマド・レザ・ハジポ、ドン・ハーツフェルト、ヨハネス・ニホムそしてOverture）のなかのひと組に選ばれて光栄です。

ひとつの作品ではなく、今までの作品の流れ＆活動に興味を持ってもらえてフィルムメーカー部門に選んでいただいた事、とてもうれしいです！
上映プログラムでは、今までの作品の中からRhubarbidoo、Bryum & Kapok、BLESS、Halfway、Ludic Chaseの５本が上映される予定です。

そして私たちも札幌の映画祭期間中に札幌を訪れるつもりです！
ふたりとも初札幌なのでほんとうに楽しみにしています。

Mr.Sandman

Here it is! Our new animation for The Kleenrz (Self Jupiter and Kenny Segal) titled Mr. Sandman, premiered this morning on okayplayer! (screenshot below)

本日８月８日、新しいビデオ「Mr. Sandman（ミスターサンドマン）」が音楽サイトokayplayerにてプレミア公開されました！

音楽はThe Kleenrz (Self Jupiter ＆ Kenny Segal) です！


The animation follows The Sandman working with his two helper Umbrella Girls and what goes on inside the big bag he carries.
This project was very fresh for us and a chance to exercise the Overture world and characters in a new atmosphere. (It is also our first time using live-action in our animation, and though small, we learned a lot!)
We are very grateful to Kenny, Self Jupiter and Hellfyre Club for this opportunity and look forward to future experiences of this nature!

映像タイトルでもあるサンドマン（ザントマン）とは、ドイツ伝承の眠りの精で、眠気を誘う魔法の砂を入れた袋を持って夜に子供をたずねて、砂を目にかけて眠らせるんだそうです。（このビデオだと緑の服のベージュのヒゲ（？）の人ですね）
さらにビデオの中には、デンマークの言い伝えに出てくるサンドマンと同様の妖精Ole Lukøje（オーレ・ルゲイエ）が持つと言われる二つの傘もアシスタントUmbrella Girlsとして登場しています。
初のヒップホップビデオという事で、とっても新鮮な気分で製作する事ができました。このチャンスをくれたKennyとSelf Jupiter、そしてHellfyre Clubに感謝！
またこのような、今までのOvertureの世界に風を吹き込む新しいプロジェクト、ぜひやってみたいと思います。
